We felt it was well past time the courage, commitment and comradeship exhibited by those soldiers who fought and died that day was more widely acknowledged and understood.
While, sadly, the voices of the past are now lost to us, we have endeavoured to ensure their memories and experiences are not lost to future generations.
Their story is told through the eyes of their loved ones and a new generation of Belgians who continue to treasure and honour our commitment to peace on their soil.
No New Zealand family was left untouched by the horrors of the Great War, not only at Gallipoli, but also at Passchendaele.
Passchendaele should be important for us too. For it is only when we understand what happened here that we can truly understand who we are.
Our Bloodiest Day is the story of New Zealand's worst military disaster.
